Wake up in a sleepy town

Michiko Hammond realizes a family dream with the new Honomu Inn
"When I think of Hawaii, I think of Honomu. In this quaint town you get the true essence of what local hospitality is."

At the end of the 19th century Honomu used to be a bustling sugar town, where people came to eat, drink and play at the local saloons, hotel and bordello. Now that the days of the sugar plantation are gone, Honomu is a peaceful little town with timber-frame buildings housing art galleries, coffee shops and crafts stores.

You can't miss Honomu town when you're on your way to famous Akaka Falls State Park with its 100-foot tall Kahanu Falls and the thunderous 442 foot Akaka Falls. A quick stop for coffee and browsing the eclectic, charming stores is nice, but if you really want to soak up Honomu's serene atmosphere, you should spend the night.

Michiko Hammond is the friendly inn keeper at the new Honomu Inn which has been tastefully restored and features three queen bedded rooms and two rooms with twin beds. Her family has a long history in town which goes back hundreds of years, when her great-grandparents immigrated to Honomu to work on the Honomu Plantation. Honomu Inn is a great place to travel back in time while enjoying all the modern ammenities.
